How we collect, use and protect your information when you interact with the Zambia Lobito Railway website.
1. Who we are
The Zambia Lobito Railway (ZLR) website is operated by the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) in partnership with the Governments of Zambia and Angola. References to "we", "us" and "our" in this policy refer to AFC acting on behalf of the ZLR project.
2. Information we collect
We collect only the information you choose to provide and a minimal amount of technical data needed to operate the site:
- Enquiry form data - when you submit our contact form, we receive your name, email address, organisation (if provided) and the message you sent.
- Language preference - when you toggle the site between English and Portuguese, we store your choice in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it on your next visit.
- Server logs - our hosting provider records standard request information (IP address, browser, referrer, time of access) for security and diagnostics. Logs are retained for a limited period and are not used to build profiles of visitors.
We do not currently run third-party analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels on this site.
3. How we use information
We use the information we receive to:
- Respond to your enquiry, tender question or request for project information.
- Operate, secure and improve the website.
- Comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations.
We will not use your contact details for marketing without your explicit consent.
4. Sharing your information
We may share your enquiry internally with the relevant ZLR project team within AFC, or - where strictly necessary to respond to your enquiry - with the host governments of Zambia and Angola or with project advisors bound by appropriate confidentiality obligations. We do not sell personal data to third parties.
5. International transfers
The ZLR project operates across Africa and engages international partners. Where information is transferred outside your home jurisdiction, we put in place reasonable contractual and technical safeguards.
6. Retention
We keep enquiry correspondence for as long as needed to address your request and to satisfy any record-keeping obligations, then delete or anonymise it.
7. Your rights
Subject to applicable law you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of your personal information, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, or to ask a question about this policy, please contact us at info@zambialobitorail.com.
8. Cookies and local storage
For details of the cookies and similar technologies we use, please see our Cookies Policy.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was most recently revised.
